Greetings in Christ,
Superiority comes in many ways, shapes, and forms, and it can have good and bad qualities. We often times associate this trait with the angels from heaven. They were created to be God’s right hand servants, and to serve Him with no question. They have abilities beyond mankind’s and are more majestic than mankind here on earth. You would think they would not have bad qualities, but when pride enters into the equation it changes the situation.
The selected readings give us a history lesson in heaven. They give us a look at the battle which had taken place in heaven over the idea of who was the superior one. It is backed by pride with one angel thinking he was more important, and he was filled with conceit displaying arrogance. Lucifer, the most beautiful angel in all of heaven, thought he was better than the One who created him. He even went as far in his thinking he could eliminate the Son of the Most High.
We cannot fathom the power possessed by the angels and their ability to move through time as they do. Some do not believe they even exist, but this thinking is not based on God’s truth. If we believe in God, we must know He is spirit and exists only in spirit. He has no form or shape. So to think He could not create something which could move through time and be invisible would be counterproductive thinking. It would be putting God in a box.
Lucifer had many qualities which gave him power, but fell short of possessing all of the qualities needed to be the best. Lucifer felt he possessed all of the qualities he needed to overthrow the creator, but he failed trying to prove it. He knows he will lose the ongoing battle for superiority, but he still keeps on trying to win. This feeling of being superior coupled with pride keeps him going. He stills has the power to deceive and destroy those who will fall into the same trap of pride thinking they do not need to hear the truth. He is constantly moving around in the darkness looking for those who feel the same way avoiding the truth of God. He wants them to ignore the truth and join him in his pursuit of pride and superiority, but there is one flaw in his thinking. Lucifer is not superior to God.
God still had a plan, and this plan was Jesus Christ—the Messiah. Jesus as the Messiah revealed the truth Lucifer was trying to hide. The one thing Lucifer’s pride could not overcome was the truth. The real truth told a different story. True superiority brings with it a sense of self respect, self-esteem, being glad to associate with something good while maintaining a level of quality, and a level of morality. True superiority does not beat you down with guilt, it lifts you up. It brings peace, not confusion. It does not make you feel ashamed of what you are, but rather you are content with who you are.
It is the truth, a source of light, overcoming and dispelling the darkness Lucifer casts on the people. It is the truth shining as a light for all to see which side will win and rule with superiority. This is why God sent His only Son to dispel the darkness to show God’s creation, His people, the true light. “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne.” Revelation 12:1-2, 5 God sent His Son to be the great light for us dispelling the darkness of the world so we could see the truth in God’s word.
“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Thy name in all the earth, Who hast displayed Thy splendor above the heavens!” Psalms 8:1
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it.” Psalms 24:1
“The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalms 29:11
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalms 84:11
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” John 3:16-21
